Carla Ashford - Olympian - Rowing


Biography:

Carla learnt to row at Oxford Brookes University whilst studying for a degree in Human Biology and Physiotherapy. In 2002 she won the Remenham Cup for Women's Eights at Henley Royal Regatta and in the same year raced at the World University Championships in the four, finishing 4th.

She joined the GB rowing team in 2005 after an impressive win at their selection trials. She won bronze in the pair at the Lucerne World Cup in July and was a member of the eight that finished fifth at the World Championships in Japan. In the 2006 World Cup Series, she finished 6th in Munich and then took a bronze in Poznan. The Women’s Eight went on to finish eighth at the 2006 World Championships in Eton.

Within the Olympic qualification year 2007, the women’s eight gained a 4th and 5th position alongside a silver medal during the world cup series. Beijing qualification was achieved after producing a bronze medal at the 2007 World Championships.

Carla reached her greatest sporting ambition when selected to represent GB at the Beijing Olympics in the Women's Eight. She had a strong season in the run up to Beijing, finishing 5th, 6th and 3rd in the World Cup Series and produced a 5th place in her first Olympic final.
