Ed Barney - International Athlete - Sailing

Biography:

A highly-motivated Great Britain international sailor who has represented Skandia Team GBR since 2003, with three national championship titles, a top 10 world ranking and a position as tune up boat for the Beijing Olympics Tornado team.

As a full-time performance athlete for the Skandia Team GBR/UK Sport Lottery, Ed had a number of individual successes at National and International levels. This includes a top fifteen result at the World Championship in the run up to Beijing, a top five F18 World Championships result, a top ten ISAF World ranking as well as numerous top ten results at ISAF Grade 1 regattas.

More recent achievements include being a Tactician/Trimmer for BT/Offshore Challenges. Here Ed competed for the BT Team Ellen sailing with Dame Ellen MacArthur, finishing on the podium in the iShares Cup 2008. Ed will also be competing in the 2009 iShares Cup for BT Team Ellen with the aim of hitting the top spot on the podium.

Whilst his prospects were very good for 2012 for a number of reasons Ed wishes to pursue a more conventional career path.
