Ian Rose - Paralympic Medallist - Judo
"Each stage takes a different level of preparation and training. Be 100% committed and prepare well and you could win that Gold Medal."
Biography:After taking up Judo to build his confidence and keep fit, Ian swiftly changed from being a shy seven year-old who was teased about his thick glasses into a world-class Paralympic champion. His story is unique because he reached the pinnacle of sports success while building up a successful career.
At the age of 17 he gained his black belt and was selected to fight his first Visually Impaired European Championships, winning bronze. From that point Judo became a way of life. He succeeded in both fully sighted and VI competitions and competed at four Paralympic Games; his first being in Barcelona in 1992, where he placed 5th. He went on to win bronze in Atlanta in 1996 before taking silver in Athens in 2004. Ian also won numerous other international medals including European and World Champion Gold.
