The London 2012 Young Leaders Programme
Building on their partnership to the London 2012 Young Leaders Programme we are delighted that BP have selected us as one of their delivery partners. The London 2012 Young Leaders Programme, which is a major new personal development launched by London 2012 and BP in January 2010 will give young people from across the UK the chance to make a positive change to their lives and local communities. The selected young leaders will then also have the opportunity to play a significant role in the delivery of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust has been contracted by BP to provide essential project management and liaison support with local authorities to identify the young people who will take part in the programme. We will also train and provide athlete mentors, which builds on the charity's mission of inspiring young people to find and fulfil their potential in sport and in life, through the support of our elite sports performers as role models and mentors.
Get On Track
Funded by Comic Relief, the 'Get on Track' programme gives vulnerable young people the chance to work with elite sports stars like Dame Kelly and a host of other world class athletes. The programme provides stepping stones for vulnerable young people to volunteering, work placements and employment opportunities. They are supported through this process by elite sports mentors who, having experienced the highs and lows of world class competition, know what it is like to face adversity and overcome the odds to succeed.
Making Headway!
DKHLT and Skill Force have joined forces to launch a new project called 'Making Headway'! Dame Kelly is herself an ex-army sergeant and together both organisations will utilise retired sporting champions and ex-military personnel to improve the life chances of young people.
