The Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust is helping competing, retiring and retired sports performers from all sports and disciplines build on their experience as elite performers and develop their skills to perform well in a new career.
The purpose of the new Champion Voice programme is to ensure that retired World Class sports performers are given the support and training required to influence and make a high quality contribution to sport at a strategic level.
The initiative, supported by the Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR) and targeted at National Governing Bodies of Sport and other sports organisations, is designed to help sport make the most of the experience and talents of retiring sports stars at a strategic level.
This initial two year programme will help high performing sportspeople make the transition from the sports arena to the board room ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to benefit the organisation they are involved with. Part of this programme will include candidate placements within sports organisations to enable them to learn and develop at strategic levels.
Ian Odgers, of Odgers Berndtson (With DKH) said: "We are delighted to be supporting the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust. By providing practical support to the elite sports performers, through programmes like our Non Executive Director training, we are playing our role in ensuring that these world class sport stars start to make their mark not only on the track, in the pool, or on the pitch, but in the boardroom as well."
Ed Warner, Chair of UK Athletics, said: "The appointment of Tanni and Jason to our board has provided a critical insight and perspective to the strategic direction and operation of UK Athletics. Their involvement means our sport stays on track, focused on making the right decisions for everyone, from the grass roots performer right through to the world class team....their input is invaluable."
