Paralympic Skier and DKH Legacy Trust’s athlete, Anna Turney, has launched a new blog detailing her work with LOCOG's 'London 2012 Young Leaders Programme' which Dame Kelly Holmes' Charity has been contracted to deliver, along with v.
With today marking two years until the London 2012 Olympic Games, Anna’s blog will reveal all the mentoring and guidance she will be giving the lucky 100 young people from across the UK who have been selected to set up volunteering initiatives in their local communities to create a lasting legacy from the games.“It was lovely to see the Young Leaders again” Anna says in her blog after a recent catch up with them. “This feels like the start of a forward-thinking project in which I am delighted to be involved.”
This is all part of the Paralympian Skier’s ambition to ‘give back to sport’ with the Trust after a fatal accident in 2006 left her paralysed from the waist down, dashing her dreams of snowboarding for team GB in the winter Olympics.
She nonetheless took up monoskiing and was soon fast-tracked into the British Disabled Ski Team, achieving her goal to race in the Vancouver Paralympics within three years.
“Focussing on sport has helped me get my life back on track after a life-changing accident” the athlete told the Trust.
“The DKH Legacy Trust enables me to motivate young people through my experiences and passion for sport. This inspirational organisation helps create a future for both athletes and young people.”
