Yesterday a group from Fearnhill School in Letchworth, Hertfordshire put on their walking shoes and set off on a 14 mile trek around the world's first Garden City.
The walk was organised by Letchworth Rotary Club and the Trust was delighted to be one of the charity beneficiaries from the sponsorship raised.
The Trust were chosen by two Fearnhill School students,Dale Maddox and Alex Murphy, after spending part of their work experience with the Trust last year.
The Year 11 students, Dale and Alex, managed to persuade their fellow students, staff, a school Governor and even the Trust's very own Chief Executive, Julie Whelan, to take part in the walk.
The Fearnhill group have now joined the many groups around the country who raise funds for the Trust as part of Kelly’s Charity Fundraisers.
The money raised from the event will be used to support the ongoing Get on Track programmes. Get on Track provides stepping stones for vulnerable young people to volunteering, work placements and employment opportunities. They are supported through this process by elite sports mentors who, having experienced the highs and lows of world class competition, know what it is like to face adversity and overcome the odds to succeed.
Julie Whelan, Chief Executive of the DKH Legacy Trust, said, "It's great to see the efforts of young people fundraising to support other young people who may be less fortunate than themselves. I was really pleased to be able to take part and enjoyed the day tremendously."
Stella Brennan, Deputy Head teacher said. “Fearnhill School has a strong reputation in raising funds for a variety of charities and we are delighted to be supporting the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust today. We were blessed with good weather for the walk and it has been a fantastic day.”
