Caps and gowns are being donned this week as many students across the country take to the stand to receive their degrees after years of hard work. Yesterday, the DKH Legacy Trust Chair, Dame Kelly Holmes was also a part of this great ceremony as she received an honoury degree from Queens University Belfast.
Dame Kelly was awarded the Doctorate of the University for distinction in sport and public services. Outside of her position in the Trust, Dame Kelly also runs the On Camp with Kelly programme to support talented young 800m and 1500m runners, is President of Commonwealth Games England and an ambassador for London 2012.
Dame Kelly said, "It's an honour to receive my Docorate from Queens University today, but it's a shock to hear that many students are leaving University and are finding it tough to gain employment. I'm glad that through my charity we are supporting graduate interns and young people with lesser qualifications alike, to find employment and make the most of their skills and talents.
This visit was Dame Kelly's second to the University, as she officially opened the new PE Centre in 2007.
